Midday in the garden
My garden
SNOW
Yes --snow-- the first apparently in October since 1974 and before that 1932. Well the children in the cul-de-sac where I live --they did not worry about the past-- this is half term and they were up bright and early playing snow balls. It has not all gone this evening either.
I put out extra food for the birds and a fat ball out of the holder so the squirrel could easily get at it --he was still rooting on the ground though where I had thrown some seed mixture for the really big birds such as the rooks, magpies, Jays, crows and blackbirds, all who find it difficult to get into the small feeding houses. The sparrows were in the little houses by the score and the blue tits and great tits were on the fat balls--even allowing the stray starling a nibble from their space.
As I walked into the garden this morning to put the food out, a massive peacock butterfly flew past me in the cold bright sunshine. What a mixture of seasons and creatures in one day !
